An American Civil War sketch shows one of the most gallant feats in the bombardment of Fort Charleston. The action was at its height when a ball cut the flagstaff and as it fell it struck a poor fellow killing him on the spot. The quartermaster of the battalion seized the fallen flag tore it from its hold and leapt on to the traverse, where he stayed under the heavy fire until a jurymast was rigged and raised in place. Buy this as a superb framed print, a canvas print or a poster.
