An old sketch portrait of Father Mersenne - Marin Mersenne, Marin Mersennus or le Pere Mersenne (1588-1648) the French theologian, philosopher, mathematician and music theorist, often referred to as the father of acoustics. Mersenne's parlour in the cloister of the Minims, just outside Paris, became the centre for exchange of mathematical ideas. Mersenne collected an amazing array of prime, perfect and amicable numbers.
